Vasili's Garden Episodes
Greece Episode 9
If you ever wondered about owning a farm but were worried that you might find it too hard to grow and maintain the fields on your own, well rest assured that we have the answer for you.
On today’s show we visit Yianni in Amindeo who does just that, he has 200 acres of farm land where he grows corn, clover, potatoes, sweet turnip and whatever else he can get his hands on.
Yes sure, it’s a lot of work but when you have every type of machinery you need on hand and a few Albanians to help here there when needed, it can’t go wrong.
We learn about his irrigation set up which is all automated and controlled by his mobile phone, technology today has even reached Greece.
After Yianni, we visit another grower, this time it’s a peach farm and packaging factory,
I have never in all my life tasted better peaches than these grown in Velevendo. They are renowned for their flavour all over the world. Not only do they supply fresh peaches to the stores, they all make their own fruit preserves in syrup. Imagine, wine tasting, cheese eating and now preserved fruit in syrup.

Native Tucker
Talk to me about tomatoes and cucumbers I’ll say yes please.
Or maybe you want to talk fruit trees. Of course, I love them too!
But if you start talking native bush foods, well this is where it poses itself as a problem to me.
Yes I must admit I haven’t had a lot of experience in eating good old native bush food, but I want to and that’s exactly what I went out to do this week.
I ventured out to Cranbourne Botanic Gardens and met up with the man himself John Arnott who is the chief horticulturalist/expert in native plants just as I like to think I am with my good old traditional Mediterranean vegie garden.
