Vasili's Garden Episodes

Greece Episode 7
Greece Episode 7

Traveling around Greece is amazing and I wish I could stay for years to do the same as there is so much to see, learn and experience.

And the buck doesn’t stop there, not only is Greece full of culture and lifestyle, there is so much history to absorb too.

Unlike Australia, Greece’s history dates back thousands of years so we thought we’d better go and visit a couple of museums to learn a bit more about it.

Our first stop is Kozani museum, well this museum is a one stop shop as there is a display for every historical period, from ancient rocks, animal life, to how civilization first begun and folk law development.

When we arrived we were told a group of people who came from Australia just left the museum, visitors from other countries is quite common and after visiting the museum myself I can see why they come from other countries, The museum is displayed over 4 levels including and underground display too.

Later we meet George Dakis who is the Mayor of Kozani, a placid person by nature who shares with us his thoughts of where Kozani was, is and is going as a growing province of Greece, with all it’s offerings through farming, production and manufacturing industries and even lifestyle too.

If you ever want to learn the history on Alexander the Great, you can’t go past Aiani Museum, anything and everything about him is there, along with plenty of findings to justify and validate the stories. One thing I can say that’s for sure is there is a lot of Greek in him. It’s well worth the visit.

Featuring This Week

Native Tucker

Talk to me about tomatoes and cucumbers I’ll say yes please.
Or maybe you want to talk fruit trees. Of course, I love them too!

But if you start talking native bush foods, well this is where it poses itself as a problem to me.
Yes I must admit I haven’t had a lot of experience in eating good old native bush food, but I want to and that’s exactly what I went out to do this week.

I ventured out to Cranbourne Botanic Gardens and met up with the man himself John Arnott who is the chief horticulturalist/expert in native plants just as I like to think I am with my good old traditional Mediterranean vegie garden.
