Vasili's Garden Episodes

Greece Episode 5
Greece Episode 5

Ever wondered where beans come from? Well I should ask where the best beans in the world come from?

‘Prespa’ in the province of Florina.

We head to Prespa to learn how the best beans in the world are grown and maybe take some of their great ideas and practices back with us to try in Australia.

But once we got there we soon realized that to be able to grow beans like they do in Prespa, you need perfect weather with high altitude, to live next to a lake that has some of the cleanest water in the world and earth that is full of silty, granitic soil that’s full of minerals.

Only in Prespa I say!

We also take a tour of their packaging factory where they pack and ship beans out to various parts of the world, it’s an amazing effort but you will notice that most of the work is done by the Albanians, I must hand it to them they do excellent work.

Featuring This Week

Native Tucker

Talk to me about tomatoes and cucumbers I’ll say yes please.
Or maybe you want to talk fruit trees. Of course, I love them too!

But if you start talking native bush foods, well this is where it poses itself as a problem to me.
Yes I must admit I haven’t had a lot of experience in eating good old native bush food, but I want to and that’s exactly what I went out to do this week.

I ventured out to Cranbourne Botanic Gardens and met up with the man himself John Arnott who is the chief horticulturalist/expert in native plants just as I like to think I am with my good old traditional Mediterranean vegie garden.
