Vasili's Garden Episodes
Greece Episode 2
On Todays show we visit a beautiful town Aghia Kiriaki in the province of Kastoria, it was named after the church which was once burnt down during the war.
With a population of 300 it was once a thriving town but now many of the residence have moved out or unfortunately passed away.
We meet Thea Zoe who has a passion for gardening and all things organic, Zoe takes us for a tour to show us her small veggie garden that’s in the front of her house but later she surprises us with a quarter acre of veggies that she is growing just down the road from her house, there is only her and her son to feed in the house, but because she has so much growing she shares it with her neighbors in the town too.
Now this lady is in her 80s and she does everything in the garden by herself, her son Theo although he is young and strong does nothing but eat and drink, although he is making an effort to grow a vineyard, a little bit messy I must admit but still at least he is trying.
Later in the show we meet George and his wife Despina, now this couple is straight out of a fiction book on Greek bush lifestyle to put it nicely. Don’t get me wrong, they are a lovely couple with pure hearts and they love to entertain.
Within 10 minutes on arriving, George had lit the BBQ and Despina prepared a cheese pita and salads and within half an hour we were eating drinking all things organic and home made, which is a typical Greek BBQ feast and to finish the day off we danced all afternoon.

Featuring This Week
Native Tucker
Talk to me about tomatoes and cucumbers I’ll say yes please.
Or maybe you want to talk fruit trees. Of course, I love them too!
But if you start talking native bush foods, well this is where it poses itself as a problem to me.
Yes I must admit I haven’t had a lot of experience in eating good old native bush food, but I want to and that’s exactly what I went out to do this week.
I ventured out to Cranbourne Botanic Gardens and met up with the man himself John Arnott who is the chief horticulturalist/expert in native plants just as I like to think I am with my good old traditional Mediterranean vegie garden.
