Greece Episode 10
More wine folks, that’s right more wine, but this time it’s not a major production company like Alpha or Gerivassiliou winery, instead it’s just Yianni and Maria from Velvendo who take us through the growing fields and back to the winery where we taste some really nice wines.
Yianni only produces a few thousand bottles a year and by the end of the day most of these a drunk by his family anyway, well not quite all of them, whatever is left they might sell to the public.
We learn about the type of soil the grapes are grown in which is quite amazing, unlike Australian soils which are predominately clay, in Velvendo it’s all limestone and the grapes are superb.
To top of the show we even go to another cheese factory, but just like Yiannis winery the cheese factory is a one man production too. Quite honestly after traveling to so many places and tasting all the different types of wines and cheeses, I’ve come to realize that the smaller the overall production the better the quality is. Some of you might not agree with me but from where I’m standing it sure seems like that.
