Enviro Soldiers

Hey kids,
My name is Costa Composter,
I am here to let you know all about compost and how it can help your plants and garden. In each issue I am going to be teaching you step by step on how to make compost and all the wonderful organic products you can add to it and then we are going to learn how to apply it to your garden. I’ll also throw in some extra handy tips on compost which you can share with your family and friends.
Compost is a key ingredient in making your garden healthy and strong and it’s a lot easier then you think. By making your own compost and using it in your garden you can get rid of all your excess food scrapes and garden waste, use them as a nutrient for your compost, it’s that easy.

1. When locating your compost container, make sure it has enough sunlight and enough shade. If this isn’t even, then this can wreck the process of making the perfect compost.

2. Putting your compost materials in your bin can be a handful, by cutting the materials into smaller pieces makes it a lot easier and speeds up the decomposing process.
3. Once you have finished, cover your heap with a lid so that it is remains moist but not wet. If it’s too wet or saturated, mix more dry material like soil or newspapers through it.

Almost 60% of rubbish Australians put in their bins could be used as compost for there garden and mulch.
By composting we can fight against climate change and reduce water we use.

You can recycle your old grass trimmings and fallen leaves for your compost. They are a main component in the making of your compost.
Compost can be used in the garden, in pots and on the lawn too.
Write to me and share your great composting tips and ideas so everyone else can learn about composting too!
